a very nice surprise!

October 23, 2009

to see some of my rings mentioned and displayed at the carrotbox  by alice matsumoto

made my day – thank you!

i am still exploring the foldforming technique. i absolutely love  watching the metal stretch and conform under my hammer blows – it’s such a great way of working the metal and i am hoping it will develop into some interesting pieces as i go along

here is the beginning

ah the smell of…

October 7, 2009

…vanilla from my lovely makalani nuts!

(or if you want to call them doom palm or just vegetable ivory)

i love working with this beautiful material – it’s so smooth and sweet in my hands

here the front of a pendant

and the back

the nuts are hollow on the inside giving the piece a lovely 3 dimensional feel

and here i have made a pair of earrings

same technique as before, so elegant and ethnic

greens

these rings i made in silver, set with peridot and tourmaline cabouchons

they can be worn together, which make them look real nice a little like pebbles, or separate

oh and about pebbles

i have made a few pieces with beach pebbles this yearpebble-banglethese ones are from big bay beach, outside cape townpebble-bangle2

these rings were one of my first pieces last year, i think they are sweet

like little creatureswhite-rings2

April 22, 2009

Autumn is creeping in, soup’s on the stove and boots are on.

Hope i can get some photos up for you!

I have been collecting pebbles as long as i remember. My latest favourites are heartshaped ones.

The heart symbolises warmth, love and happiness for me, but is also such an amazing shape – specially when found created by natureitself! Have we given the heart shape its  amazing-ness  or does the shape itself hold this gift?

The following piece was supposed to have been the frame for the pebble but it did not work out, so i forged it with a back into a heart with a pebble feel to it, and the strung it with teething seeds.
